FAT AND FOOD WASTE
Cooking fat sets inside the trap and the pipe behind it. Food scraps stick to the fat until the water stops.
We clear the trap and the run behind it.
HAIR AND SOAP
Hair wraps around the waste fitting and soap binds it into a plug. The tray fills while you shower and drains long after you finish.
We clear the fitting and check why it keeps catching.
SOAP AND TOOTHPASTE
Soap, toothpaste and hair collect in the bottle trap. The pop-up plug catches more on the way down.
We remove the trap, clear it and check the pipe behind it.
Most sink and shower blockages start at the trap. These six signs tell you yours has gone past it.
You plunged it and the water did not drop
A plunger only works on the trap. If several pushes change nothing, the blockage sits further along the waste pipe, out of reach.
It still drains but slower every week
Gradual slowing means fat, soap or hair is coating the inside of the waste pipe. Each week the gap gets smaller until the water stops.
Two or more sinks or showers are slow together
When several fixtures slow together, the blockage sits in the pipe they share or the soil stack. A slow toilet as well points to the outside drain.
The smell comes back after every clean
A returning smell means waste is rotting past the plughole. When the source is hard to pin down, an odour investigation traces where it starts.
It blocked again weeks after you cleared it
A blockage that keeps returning to the same spot means something in the pipe is catching waste. A CCTV camera survey shows exactly what.
Water comes up in the bath when the sink drains
Water backing up into another fixture means the waste pipe they share is blocked. Both will keep getting worse until that shared pipe is cleared.

We had an extremely positive experience with Davis Drain Services. Within minutes of calling them out of hours, they arrived to our house to clear a blocked septic tank. It was pumped out promptly before returning the following morning to rectify the issue. At all times they made us feel at ease and explained everything to us clearly. While on site they also provided helpful advice on how to rectify heating issues we were having. We would have no hesitation recommending them for both drainage and plumbing works. Thanks to Alec and team.Posted on Google![]()

Just had Alec out to look at an issue with my boiler. We were without heat and he arrived so quickly after being contacted. He was able to pinpoint the issue straight away and had it fixed in minutes. I also asked advice on an issue with my drains that I have been encountering for a few years and he was able to give me advice on how fix it. Thank you Alec, I am very grateful for all you help.Posted on Google![]()

Great service, fast call out lovely team
Most blockages sit in the trap or the first stretch of pipe. Checking there first saves time and skips kit you do not need.
The trap comes off a basin, a hand auger goes into a shower waste, and drain rods reach anything further back. Nothing is forced, so fittings stay intact.
A full-flow test shows whether the pipe is truly clear or just draining for now. If the water backs up at all, there is more to clear further along.
You get a plain answer on why it blocked. If the stack, a shared pipe or the drain outside is the real cause, you hear that before any further work starts.
Three things set the price: which fixture is blocked, how far down the pipe the blockage sits, and how easy the trap is to reach.
Once the blockage is found, you get the price to clear it. If the job turns out bigger, you are told and asked again first.
This is an estimate. We quote the actual price after seeing the job.

Unblocking a sink or shower in Ireland usually costs between €80 and €200. A trap blockage sits at the lower end. Set fat further down a kitchen waste pipe, or a bath trap behind a panel, costs more. You get the price before work starts.
Often, yes, if the blockage is at the trap. Plunge a kitchen sink with the overflow or second bowl covered. Lift out the pop-up plug on a basin and pull the hair off it. On a shower, remove the grate and clear what you can reach. If none of that moves the water, the blockage is past the trap and needs rods.
A shower drain keeps blocking because hair builds up on the waste fitting faster than water can flush it. A hair catcher over the grate slows it down. If blockages still return every few months, the fitting needs checking or replacing.
A kitchen sink drains slowly because fat has set inside the trap and the waste pipe behind it. Warm fat pours easily, then cools and sticks. The gap narrows each week, so hot water after washing up only delays it. Clearing the trap and first run of pipe fixes it.
When more than one sink or shower drains slowly at the same time, the blockage is in a pipe they share, the soil stack, or the drain outside. Clearing one trap will not help. That calls for full drain unblocking further down the line, cleared from the nearest access point.
Yes. Bath drains block with hair and soap, the same as showers, but the trap is harder to reach because it sits behind the bath panel or under the floor. The trap is cleared through the panel or from the plughole with rods.
Most sink and shower blockages at the trap take under an hour to clear. A basin or shower is usually quickest, because the blockage sits right under the fitting. A kitchen sink takes longer when fat has hardened further down the waste pipe.
No. Chemical drain cleaner rarely shifts a proper blockage, and it can damage older pipes and plastic fittings over time. It also leaves caustic water sitting in the trap, which makes it unsafe to open. If you have already used some, say so before anyone opens the trap.
Tell us which fixture is blocked and where you are. Price back to you the same day.
