How much does it cost to unblock a drain in Dublin?

A blocked sink or shower in Dublin typically costs between €80 and €200 to unblock, and an outside drain runs €120 to €300. Commercial and recurring blockages cost more, as they take longer to reach and clear. Every job is quoted before we start.

How long does drain unblocking take?

Most domestic drain unblocking is done in under an hour on site. An outside drain or a blocked main run can take longer, depending on the access and what is in the pipe. We tell you what to expect when we quote.

Can I unblock a drain myself?

Sometimes, yes. A plunger is worth a go on a single slow sink or a toilet that still fills and drains. Skip the caustic drain cleaner: it rarely shifts a real blockage and damages the pipe over time. If a plunger does not move it, the blockage is deeper and needs a drainage company.

What causes a drain to block?

Fat, oil and food waste are the most common cause in kitchens, and wipes and sanitary products in bathrooms. Outside, it is usually tree roots, silt or a broken pipe. We find which one caused yours while we clear it, so you know what to change

Why does my drain keep blocking?

Because something in the pipe is still causing it: a tree root, a cracked joint, a dropped section, or a build-up that clearing only shifts for a while. A drain that blocks more than once a year needs a CCTV drain survey to find the cause rather than another clear-out.

Who is responsible for a blocked drain in a rented house?

Usually the landlord. Under the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2019, landlords must keep a rented home’s plumbing and drainage in good repair. The exception is when the tenant caused the blockage, for example with wipes or fat, in which case the tenant can be liable. We clear it either way and invoice whoever booked us.
